Charming

Death of an Englishman - Magdalen Nabb

                A lovely little mystery.

After read this, I have to wonder why this hasn’t been adapted to film or shown on PBS.  It’s great.  It’s funny that the series is named after the Marshal because he spends most of the time sick in bed.

The books great charm and source of humor is the interaction between the Italians and the English, be it resident English or those called in on business.  It is the reaction of the Italians to the verbose English woman who does not learn Italian – why can’t the Italians learn English – or the English desire to eat English food.

In some ways, this book reminds me of Murder She Wrote, where Fletcher always knows someone.  The same is true in this book, but with the important point that the Marshal actually truly knows people.  Nabb does a wonderful job of conveying the sense of long friendships.
